I hope you have seen or have plans to see ‘ The Boys in the Boat’ movie….it is inspirational, well done and brings hope and joy during this time when most movies are about blow them up, shoot them down….however, it is a true story about 9 amazing men who rose to the challenge, during the Depression and won Gold medals at the Olympics in Berlin Germany in 1936.

Did you see any women rowing in that movie? NO….so here is some history. Read up about Lucy Pocock who was the first female coach in 1908. Her achievement leading to a long road to Title IX enacted in 1972 - prohibiting sex discrimination in any educational program or activity that receives federal funding. This title is commonly associated with promoting gender equity to sports e.g. rowing.
