Best Dock Etiquette

The water is flat and it's time for that perfect row. You hear the stomping of feet coming down the gangway and a coach is approaching you. The coach is annoyed with you for being a dock hog.

Not the best way to start your perfect row. To make sure that you do have that perfect row, here are a few steps to help ensure that you have taken care of everything that would prevent you from getting right into your rowing shell once you have put your boat on the water at the dock. Bathroom breaks, water bottles, oars, seat pads, shoe changes, etc., should all take place before you take the boat down to the water. Once the boat is at the dock, the steps should be:

1) Put oars in oarlocks, starting with the dockside first.

2) Place water bottle, speed measuring thingies, etc. in boat.

3) Take off shoes and place in footwell or quickly place them in the shoe box.

4) Get in and walk the boat off of the dock.

Now you are ready for a perfect row!!

Next week we will talk about the traffic pattern.
